Why did CCIC create the Code of Ethics?

CCIC was one of the first networks of civil society organizations in the world to adopt a code of ethics. The CCIC Code of Ethics was originally adopted at the Council’s Annual General Meeting of 1995.  There were a number of issues facing organizations in the early part of that decade and CCIC members decided that it was important to put in place an ethical framework for all of their organizations.  The story of the history of the original development of the Code is available in the document, Creating a Code of Ethics: Developing Ethical Standards for a Sector.  The history of the addition in 2004 of new sections on Partnership has also been written in A Story of Partnership and Progress.
