CCIC Annual Forum: Changing realities, changing roles and the future of Canadian CSOs
The Forum on “Changing realities, changing roles” will take the pulse of the sector on a range of emerging issues that challenge our ability to fulfil our various roles as independent development actors in our own right. The Forum has three specific objectives:
To provide a platform for exchange on different assessments and understandings of the changing context and emerging trends for civil society organizations and our roles in international development;
To explore key ways for civil society to address these emerging new realities;
To identify priorities and concrete actions for the sector’s collective responses to these realities, and to define what role CCIC can play in these.
The imperative to mobilize public opinion in support of the goals of international development and the work that our sector does has never been so pressing. And yet the conditions are also the most challenging - PE funding and programming from CIDA is drying-up, the threat of a recession looms high and weighs heavily on the minds of ordinary Canadians, and the government is using simple and compelling arguments like value-for-money, efficient use of funds, and fiscal restraint to justify reduced support for fighting poverty abroad. It is time to get our metrics right, profile who we are and what we do, and re-invest in our narrative to connect in new and mobilizing ways to the Canadian public.
1) Informed by the outcomes of the Forum, the AGM will affirm the importance of our collective work through CCIC to improve our practices and efforts towards development excellence, and for an enabling environment in Canada.
2) One year after the re-imagining of CCIC, the 2012 AGM will receive a report on the Council’s transition phase and major accomplishments of the past year and review the Council’s strategic priorities for the coming year.
