Advocacy Program Coordinator   

 

The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) is an international not-for-profit organization that seeks to improve care for people with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. Established in 1963, the WFH works with member organizations in 118 countries as well as through a network of international volunteers and healthcare providers.
The WFH is looking for an experienced and results-oriented Advocacy Program Coordinator with superior organizational and interpersonal skills, to be responsible for the planning, implementation and coordination of WFH’s new Advocacy in Action program.

Type of position:   Full-time
Long-term contract (2010-2015)
Reporting to:         Programs Director
Location:               Montreal – downtown
Start date:            October 2010

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Play a leading role in the planning, implementation, delivery, and ongoing development of the Advocacy in Action program activities and projects for WFH;
  • Coordinate the planning and organization of training workshops around specific national member organizations (NMOs) advocacy issues and needs;
  • Develop advocacy resources and tools, as well as research and analyze relevant data on health care issues in support of NMO advocacy campaigns;
  • Act as staff liaison for the Advocacy in Action program Grants Committee, reviewing and processing NMO advocacy grant proposals;
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance and support to facilitators and NMOs in the development and implementation of specific national advocacy projects/campaigns, including support on matters of public policy, data collection and media relations;
  • Liaise closely with Regional Program Managers to share lessons learned and ensure Advocacy in Action program activities are integrated with overall programs strategies; also collaborate with relevant Communications & Public Policy staff as needed;
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on Advocacy in Action program goals and developments, including the preparation of periodic narrative and financial progress reports as well as articles on Advocacy in Action projects and activities;
  • Ensure sound administrative and financial control of Advocacy in Action program operations.

 Qualifications & Requirements:

  • University degree in international relations, development, public health, political studies, social sciences, communications, or other relevant discipline;
  • Five (5) years of relevant Program experience in advocacy work or advocacy campaigning at the national, regional or international levels, in public policy, media and/or Government and Public Affairs, within either the non-profit, public or private sector;
  • Strong analytical, organizational and project management skills; ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and to work on several projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to work successfully towards deadlines;
  • Superior communication, public speaking and presentations skills;
  • Excellent cross-cultural skills and demonstrated experience in working with people from diverse cultures and countries; above-average networking abilities;
  • Highly motivated, efficient and flexible individual with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and collaborate with others in a team environment, as well as autonomously;
  • English as primary language of work (written and spoken); fluency in French and/or another language (ex., Spanish) is an asset;
  • Availability and flexibility to undertake international travel on a regular basis.

Salary will be commensurate with background and experience. Group benefits available.
